could it get more darling?

dsm fatherOr less darling as it turns out… since we were finally ready for the other shoe to drop on the unknown paternity of the kids on Dirty Sexy Money. And yes of course the brattiest, spoiledest, and the one who hates Nick the most, is in fact his brother. Brother Father Brian isn’t a Darling.

This wasn’t his only shock as the custody hearing for his own son went quickly, since he was arrested for attempted bribery. Out on bail, Brother Father is given a 6 month suspension. Infidelity and bribery don’t look that good to the parish and though he’s given a track back to god, is that the right path for him? So who does he turn to for guidance after much prayer? Apparently God told him to go work for Tripp. And to get out of that stuffy Father collar. Does this mean I can’t call him Brother Father and I have to remember his name?

Politico brother Patrick wraps up his stay in the hospital and apparently wifey wants to withdraw her arrangement for his seeing Carmelita. Either mistress or career. So he told her it would be career, but of course he told Carmelita he couldn’t give her up. Now he and wifey are getting back on track, and Carmelita thinks she’s being followed. And perhaps she was, because while the driver had her under surveillance for Pat she disappeared. And Patty seems broken up about it, or does he?

And Jeremy’s attempt to be a normal boyfriend led him to turn to Mrs. Nick. When she turned down his request to use their apartment as his ‘poor’ shack he rented a studio that he had a decorator trash appropriately. But alas the new gal doesn’t mind that he’s poor, just that he has no goals, which is in fact the case. But rather than show her the real, real him, he’s keeping the lie alive and borrowed some nudes from Mrs. Nick’s gallery to pretend to be a starving artist. Too bad the new ladyfriend wants him to paint her now. When he finally comes clean she’s of course livid about his lying.

And when Mrs. Nick gets a taste of what it’s really like to get caught up in the Darling schemes by trying to get the artist to help Jeremy out, she ends up smoking pot and having him kiss her. Of course she told Jeremy not to do it again… (she loves Nick and is way too old for him, but then again so is the woman he’s trying to woo). And she got fired for making the art smell like pot. When she and Nick talked, apparently the solution to being unemployed is to have another kid. I don’t get it, but they’re both thrilled.

And what of Miss Juliet the lovely who in real life has been spending time in outpatient rehab… well apparently her not being on the show was written in by her being on Karen’s honeymoon. And she brought back a boy toy. And as he agrees to stay indefinitely, and not to be taken care of, she agrees that he should be her first. Lest we forget she’s a virgin. I don’t get it, he doesn’t seem that hot or charismatic, but whatever.

And when Nick confided that Simon Elder’s latest request was for family financial records, Tripp agreed to supply them, or at least some sort of them. Tripp then got on the phone to a mysterious recipient to have them find out what Elder was after. Could Karen, who is now sleeping with Elder, be doing it under the guise of surveillance, or is that vice versa? Well yes, but their agreement is that she not get emotionally involved and she seems to be slipping when Elder introduces him to his ex, who he is still close with, and she ‘approves’ (yeah I didn’t quite get it), Karen got all choked up…

And we got to get a glimpse of Nick’s dad Dutch in a flashback… with the role cast does that mean we’re ready for him to not really be dead? Did we find a body in the watery crash? I think not. We should have three more episodes left, but as they sprinkle the repeats you can catch the pilot this Wednesday to get introduced, or reintroduced, to the characters properly.

gossip much?

null So who’s making out with who? Ok it’s ‘whom,’ but really… From the look of the previews for tonight’s ep there might be some scandal. But with this crowd who can keep track anyhow.

Little Humphrey told Blair about her Boring Boyfriend digging Serena, and she was banished from the kingdom. When Blair and Boring B broke up, Boring B seemed relieved and finally grew a backbone. Mom of course insisted that he make his personal relationship help dad’s professional relationships. Boring Mom is in denial and Boring Dad was too busy getting drunk, taking drugs, getting arrested for embezzlement and fraud, and ODing to get that involved.

When Bowtie Chuck’s dad dissed his burlesque business idea, dad’s little asian strumpet thought the project might be a go, so dad gave him another shot. Too bad Chuck already told Mrs. Vanderwoodsen that dad was whoring around on her (and the strumpet was really a bus associate). So Mrs. Vanderwoodsen turned to Mr. Humphrey while Blair turned to Chuck. It would have been a one time deal for Blair and Chuck but Boring B continued to let her down and Chuck actually pursued her, with diamonds and everything. So is it only a two time deal?

Blair and Serena traded slut barbs but made up when Blair had a bulimia relapse after her mom banned European gay dad from Thanksgiving (and lied about it all). Before the makeup Serena got the Vanderwoodsens invited to the Humphreys. Too bad the reconciled Humprey’s weren’t ready for the past to meet present, but the age old romance cat is out of the bag. And since past didn’t seem so past, Mom Van won’t be hitting the Humphrey’s pad too much. Mom Humphrey is a little pot calling the kettle black as she was off cheating with a ‘neighbor’. And the kids have decided that they aren’t related.

So what drama will unfold next? Will Serena and Dan actually do it, or will the pull of his first love screw things up? Or maybe Boring B will make another play… And Blair might get another taste of Chuck, or lure back Boring B. But of course there’s that photo of Boring B and Little Humphrey floating around, but that’s strictly innocent, for now…

antm – down to 4

antm7

Well I’ve had a chance to catch up on the girls, and as the selection narrows I find myself, as always, more engaged. First the gals got matched up with some designers at FIDM, to be muses for outfits made from hideous light blue old lady suits. And of course anything that requires interaction with others is fodder for failure. Saleisha apparently cheesed up her walk and one line just enough to win a shoot for Seventeen, and took Lisa and Bianca along with her. Heather predictably stumbled through her lines and started to melt when critiqued on it.

They then headed out to the desert to do a ‘model wasteland’ shoot. Chantal, Saleisha and Jenna sort of rock their shots… And of course they teased the gals with the trip to China before eliminating someone. Ambreal and Lisa were in the bottom two and alas Ambreal just left the panel wanting, no China for her.

Once in China the ladies got a crash course in martial art poses and then had to put them to the test while strung up in the sky. Bianca had to forfeit the challenge when her fear of heights overtook her, but focus driven Heather took the win. She took Chantal with her on a shopping spree (Chantal was the only one who tried to work with the gals when apparently the one double bed wasn’t to be shared and Heather was taunted about having to sleep on the sofa).

And on to the big Covergirl shoot… the lines needed to be learned and after the spot was shot they moved to a photo. Though they panel agreed that everyone basically did terrible, Lisa melted down and Heather couldn’t come up with any inflection even when fed line by line. Chantal was called first and we ended up with Lisa and Heather in the bottom two. So Lisa’s confidence was shot when she stumbled through the entire ad and though Heather did awful, she was able to come up with a sweet photo (which surprised the judges). Lisa was still not getting it all together at the panel and was sent packing.

Then they were on to one of my favorite episodes, the go sees. What makes these so awesome is watching the girls get lost and lose it, I mean they are in China, but truly I think it’s fair because this is legitimately what the girls will need to be able to do. Heather the mess only went to one go see, and couldn’t find her cab and was forty minutes late, trailing Chantal and Jenah, 15 and 20 minutes late. Saleisha and Bianca are the only ones who made it back in time, and the go see-ees picked Bianca to get her photo on a billboard for the 2008 Olympics.

As they totally emphasized how they needed to show personality, they dissed Jenah for being too sarcastic and distant (maybe that’s why I like her). But alas Heather was totally inept, and has been losing it for a while, a great picture is a start but does not a top model make, and she was sent home. Saleisha and Bianca are bringing it, so Chantal and Jenah need to make it happen.

So we’ve only got two episodes left, predictions? Unless we see some surprises, which we often do, I think the gals will go in the order called tonight. Jenah with the great shots and the messy in person and attitude will be next to go. Chantal who they just don’t love will go next. Then with the final two of Bianca and Saleisha I predict Saleisha, who is much more personable and has shown the most growth, to take it. Stay tuned to find out who will be… America’s Next Top Model.

darling dish

Well the darlings of Dirty, Sexy, Money are keeping busy…

Of course the big mystery, Nick was told by the police that the report on his father’s downed plane showed it was an accident, really? Maybe not, as Simon Elder convinced Nick that if he got Tripp to put up the nostalgic Darling Plaza property in the big poker game he’d give him the undoctored copy of the report. So far Nick’s honesty is working alright for him, he told Elder that he didn’t know whether he could trust him and he confided with Tripp what Elder wanted. Tripp offered up the property in order to get to the truth, and when the game was lost, since Elder had the dealer, it wasn’t long before Darling Plaza was demo’d. For trying to convince Nick he’s the good guy Elder’s seeming a bit on the smarmy side. But Nick got the report which pointed to a mechanic, who not coincidentally turned up dead.

This isn’t Nick’s only problem of course, Karen hasn’t made it a big secret that she has always had a crush on Nick, but did manage to make it down the isle with pro golfer Freddy. She didn’t tell Nick she wanted him to write up her divorce until arriving at the reception, because Freddy declared that he really loved her. 3 million dollars later the annulment was final. She then declared to Nick that she really loved him before laying one on him. Instead of him telling her he didn’t love her, or something of the like, he mumbled a ‘gotta go’… then of course declared his love to his wife. Karen’s in full Nick mode and now mom Leticia is helping to bring them together, letting the kissing incident ‘slip’ to wifey.

All the while the twins tried to out compete each other for a best 25th birthday party and they both ended up unfulfilled and with Tripp deciding not to let them have their latest portion of their inheritence. Jeremy found out that his girlfriend and Juliet’s former bff was lying about being pregnant, or at least not telling when she found out she wasn’t. Juliet has somehow forgiven her since she wrote a new apology song about her biggest regret, apparently the bff is some sort of pop star. So while the bff’s are back in action Jeremy is trying to turn a new leaf and get a job. He’s starting as a valet at one of their properties and is sniffing around a woman who doesn’t know he’s a Darling so he can play ‘regular guy’.

Juliet’s other occupation has been entertaining Brain Junior. Our religious brother father Brain got found out for his illegitimate child posing as swedish exchange student. Though Juliet was having some fun playing dress up with him she actually convinced brother father that he needed to spend some time with him, perhaps the sweet kid will bring out a hidden good side. Mom just returned from a couple months in Brazil reportedly to see the son, but didn’t mind getting a little brother father action before deciding that she wanted to drag the tyke back to Brazil. Leave it to father brother to pray to god that the arbitrator on their custody takes his bribe.

Politico brother Pat had another break up with dad when he tried yet again to break up Pat’s relationship with his mistress who used to be a mister Carmelita, but she’s got too much sass to put up with that. And of course it wouldn’t be long before wifey started getting pissy, thanks to Elder’s secret update about the mistress. She was happy to broker a deal with Carmelita for his time when it was just sex, but when she found out he actually talked to Carmelita the Mrs. shot him. It was only in the leg…

Pat has also moved out and is now in bed, figuratively speaking, with Elder. Elder has grand schemes of saving New York. And Tripp didn’t mince words when telling Nick he wanted Elder utterly destroyed. And that started with telling the gang that Elder blames the Darlings for his parents death since the father’s worked together until the Elders were given the boot over rumors of an affair with Tripp’s mom. Then they were off to Russia which didn’t treat his parents well. Elder swung back by informing Nick that Tripp was involved in his brother’s death. Hmmm…

Are you still with me? Good. Tonight what new devastating secret will be revealed?

what’s up chuck

chuck pilotI have to say I find myself looking forward to Chuck each week. And I find that it’s not just because of the interesting characters forced to work together, or the witty dialogue, or the kick-ass action scenes, but honestly also because I don’t have to think too hard. I have a few Heroes queued in the backlog because I feel like I don’t have the attention span. But though it’s easy to follow Chuck on his weekly adventure with his two agent protectors, hiding it all from his sister Ellie and best bud Morgan, there are a few big plot items. So if you haven’t been watching you should tune in and though you don’t really need it, here’s a bit of story…

Chuck was kicked out of Stanford because his roommate Bryce turned him in for cheating (which if course he didn’t do), either before or after stealing his girlfriend. Chuck can’t forgive him for it, and has yet to really get his life back on track. He’s tech support at the Nerd Herd at Buy More (think Geek Squad at Best Buy but funnier and apparently more successful at helping solve tech issues). And he’s living with his doctor sister (Everwood/What About Brian’s Sarah Lancaster) and her boyfriend dubbed Captain Awesome, because everything is in fact ‘awesome’. Their parents are gone, though we’ve yet to get what could be more than just a story of a mother who left and a father who wasn’t there for them.

So all is chugging along in Chuck’s unfulfilled life when he receives an email from his old college roommate/nemesis and what hides behind a path of a video game they wrote in college is in fact encoded images and information about all of the secrets that all of the countries agencies had hidden away. Nemesis Bryce managed to steal these before blowing up the computer that held them and getting himself killed. Apparently roommate was a rogue agent for the CIA.

Bryce’s former partner, professionally and romantically, Sarah, goes after Chuck to track it all down. Chuck is now too valuable to lose and has round the clock support from Sarah, who pretends to be his girlfriend working across the street, and Casey (the hilarious Adam Baldwin) who is NSA, works with him at Buy More, and has moved into his apartment complex. Each week Chuck is either assigned to, or happens upon, something that makes him ‘flash’ and tap into the downloaded info.

Sarah is clearly getting close to Chuck, though when he asked her with a little truth serum happening about her true feelings for him, her training allowed her to say no. Though of course her kissing him when she thought they were about to die cleared that up. But with Bryce returning from the dead for a makeout session of his own, who knows where Sarah’s heart lies. Bryce, it turns out, was on assignment, and not in fact rogue, and is now heading out to find the true evildoers. We knew there was a chance he wasn’t evil when we found out that he got Chuck kicked out of Stanford to avoid his being recruited by the CIA and ruining his life. Funny how things work out.

strike on

So they struck, now what? Well rumor has it negotiations are scheduled to begin again after Thanksgiving. It sounds as if there was an initial mandate that folks go back to work in good faith for negotiations to resume but since the writers don’t seem to be budging on that, the mandate may not be completely mandatory. It also looks as if negotiations with the late night crew to come back sans writers, and sans prewritten segments, are also underway, shooting for after the giving of thanks as well. I read that in the last strike in ’88 they also pulled a stoppage for a while then when Carson went back the rest followed.

All in all the writers and those in support feel that the short term sacrifices of money and security are worth their stand but what about those folks who aren’t writers? The Desperate Housewives were booed for bringing pizzas to the strikers while finishing out the scripts in the can and Ellen was suffering a backlash (not quite as bad as the doggy adoption fiasco) for going on with the show, sans opening monologue with a shout out to the strikers. So for shows where the actors are under contract and/or preserving folk’s jobs and/or keeping a syndicated timeslot (daytime works a little different than nighttime talkers)… are they in the wrong?

And why is it that some folks seem to get grief while others don’t? I think it was Letterman who paid his entire staff’s salaries for a couple of weeks while off the air, but clearly that can’t happen across the board. And though The Office shut down immediately (for the most part the writers are the actors, and I believe Steve Carell, who is not actually a writer, called in with swollen balls) most of the rest of the management in dual roles like Lost is returning to finish production without doing any rewrites with the sentiment that they’d finish this stuff anyway they should at least be involved.

As for the completed shows, my tivo is still filling up, and they are still introducing come midseason items that have a critical mass complete, but things will be winding down. TVGuide has a nice little strike watch going that let’s you know when you’re going to start your mandatory detox. Though apparently we could be seeing things like reshooting Green Acres as written which may soon be under way. Let’s just hope negotiations go well and give thanks that we’re entering the good season for movies since we won’t see the effects of the strike on that for quite some time.
