how television rules my life…
So there’s not really anything new or noteworthy this week unless you’re particularly excited about the American Country Countdown Awards. And I barely made it through 15 minutes of last week’s Containment. Which at least should give me some downtime to keep whittling down my TiVo backlog and chipping away on my latest Netflix items Daredevil and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. And perhaps make some progress on my book before the next book club.
So a hard pass last week on Hunters and Game of Silence with a soft pass on The Detour which just didn’t quite win me over to the family trip gone awry. I also renegotiated my cable package and refrained from upgrading one level which would have gotten me back into Spike and added Sundance. I’m not sure TV is the area where I need to budget but there’s just something about spending money when I already have too much tv to watch, though I am still holding out for next seasons of Rectify and Returned to be available.

Well I’ve finally wrapped X-Files and though I enjoyed some of the revisits, and feel accomplished to have caught up to the new eps, this isn’t the greatest example of a successful reboot (though apparently ratings and interest were high enough that we’re likely to see more). Glad to free up some queue space, I feel like I need to knock off the rest of Returned before I dig into the next season of Daredevil or House of Cards plus of course Orphan Black comes back this week.

I’m still in denial about shows on ‘networks’ like Hulu though this one could be worth a look. Otherwise a few more options that could kill some time but probably won’t.

I’ve been taking this lull to try to polish off my X-Files viewing but of course there is more left than I thought.
The shows are starting to back up on me again but I’ll find room for a couple returns. Though I’ll take a look at the new ones as well.
So I’ve stopped noting season premieres for the most part but with streaming curious how they all work. For normal TV I just have a season pass set, so if it’s a show I watch I get it when it comes back but streaming… Netflix seems to send me an email (which is probably a preferences thing) and I know if I tune in they will most likely, but not always, show it in the big banner. Since I’m not a pay user of Amazon or Hulu, or any other random service, I wonder how well they prompt you? Who can keep up with it all?
I can’t resist a look at new shows even if I don’t think they’ll get in the lineup, though I am more forgiving of sitcoms than dramas.
So now that we’ve talked about some of the good tv of the last year, there are a few shows that are on my own personal chopping block. I have to admit I’m often kind of relieved when a show I watch gets canceled. Every year there are new shows, plus the shows I’m already watching, it’s just impossible to keep up. But since the networks don’t always put shows out of their misery, or mine, I sometimes have to leave shows that aren’t quite what they used to be. Here are a few in contention:
