new and noteworthy tv: 6/15-6/28

On Netflix I worked my way through The Burroughs (Stranger Things light with old people) good cast and good enough but just ok, and Lord of the Flies which looked pretty but I wasn’t that into watching the expected boyhood gone bad, the second season of The Four Seasons which did a better job mixing in more laughs with everyone not getting along, and How to Get to Heaven from Belfast which has notes of Bad Sisters but is a little ridiculous. Over on Amazon Prime I made it through Bait a fun concept about Riz Ahmed’s character’s quest to become the next Bond but for me it was also a little too ridiculous, also ridiculous but I couldn’t miss was Nick Cage as a noir detective and Spider-Man in Spider-Noir which gave him moments of going full Cage, not great but entertaining, and Jack Ryan catching up on both the series, which was very entertaining, and the final movie which probably could have used a full season. And of course over on HBO finished out Hacks which went out on a high note and Euphoria which felt a little too strained for me in its third and final season but had some good moments and performances.

For movies I went to HBO for Lurker, a psychological thriller that had its moments but I thought could have been tighter, and Miss You, Love You which was carried by good performances but otherwise not amazing.

  • Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness (HBO) Series Premiere, Friday 6/26 – I’m not really a fan of sketch comedy, or Larry David but curious about his pairing with the Obamas to bring a look at America’s history.
