intriguing new fall tv

As with all fall seasons there is a feeling of measured optimism about a few shows. Measured because there is just so much that can go right or wrong. I guess we have to start somewhere, here’s what’s at the top of my list:

The Blacklist (NBC) – James Spader as an evil mastermind with a plan, ok it doesn’t look revolutionary but of the new procedurals this interests me most.
Brooklyn 9-9 (Fox) – Andy Samberg might have found the right amount of funny, and a dose of Andre Braugher doesn’t hurt.
The Crazy Ones (CBS) – Sarah Michelle Geller and Robin Williams back on tv, of course it’s worth a shot.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (ABC) – I think we all know I’ll watch anything made by Joss Whedon and this side take on his superheroes has great potential.
The Michael J. Fox Show (NBC) – Excited to see him back on a regular basis and we all know he’s willing to use his current medical state for good story fodder.
Trophy Wife (ABC) – This year’s new take on the mixed family and the cast lends to a lot of good potential.

And for a few other things that could be hidden gems

Almost Human (Fox) – It’s a robot partner future cop show, hmm…
Back in the Game (ABC) – So if Walter Matthau (Bad News Bears) had a daughter who started coaching little league… oh and her dad’s there (who is clearly not Walter).
Betrayal (ABC) – It’s like Revenge but maybe not as campy, maybe more like Unfaithful, I don’t know there’s some cheating and a lot of complications.
Dads (Fox) – Dubbed by many as the least funny show on the lineup, let’s hope they don’t waste Seth Green, Peter Riegert, Martin Mull, and Giovanni Ribisi.
Dracula (NBC) – A ‘unique’ take on the vampire with Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Hostages (CBS) – Rumor has it the family gets to leave the house they’re being held hostage in to make Toni Collette kill the president in surgery.
Goldbergs (ABC) – The 80s was a great decade but I’m not sure this family comedy set then is a great one.
Ironside (NBC) – Blair Underwood is a great lead, but him in a wheelchair fighting his demons and the case of the week may not be great.
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland (ABC) – I skipped out on Once Upon a Time so not even sure I’m game for another pilot.
Lucky 7 (ABC) – Lottery winners lives are changed, I feel like I’ve seen this and it’s never done well.
The Millers (CBS) – Will Arnett, Margo Martindale and Beau Bridges in a family comedy deserve a watch.
Mom (CBS) – Anna Faris and Allison Janney as problemed mother/daughter have the potential for some laughs.
The Originals (CW) – Another spin off whose original series, The Vampire Diaries, I don’t watch.
Reign (CW) – Period drama CW style.
Sean Saves the World (NBC) – I want Sean Hayes to be in a funny show and though the advance word isn’t strong, you never know with a sitcom.
Sleepy Hollow (Fox) – Turns out a ridiculous premise has the potential to be just funny enough to be amusing and maybe even good.
Super Fun Night (ABC) – Rebel Wilson can be funny but the critics haven’t had super great things to say.
The Tomorrow People (CW) – The latest super hero drama, I think it’s like Heroes on the network that likes pretty people.
We Are Men (CBS) – Jilted and divorced men bring on the comedic intent, Tony Shalhoub, Kal Penn and Jerry O’Connell hopefully get some funny.
Welcome to the Family (NBC) – So a couple of disparate familied graduating teens get pregnant instead of their intended plans, blah blah.
