I finished catching up on the series finale of Motherland: Fort Salem, and while it had its moments it was a little too uneven for a solid recco. I’m getting started on some new streaming, both Better Call Saul and Lucifer. I’ve been looking for a new light show after I finished The OC, my polling turned me toward Jane the Virgin, but while light and pretty well done, a little too overtly soapy for me.

I did end up throwing down for Paramount+ and started the new season of Ink Master. The format is pretty much the same with new hosts, judges, and guest appearances by Dave Navarro, with returning competitors and tattoos still at the center I’m in. I am also starting to catch up on Evil and The Good Fight.

I caught up with Bob’s Burgers and caught the movie last weekend. It’s one of the few animated series I tend to find pretty amusing. I did catch Little Demon (Fxx) this last week which was cute enough, but not sure I’d stick with it. I also finished my rewatch of The OC, which was pretty fun, even if the first season was really the best. I polled for a new ‘light’ show to pick up. The votes leaned to Jane the Virgin which I got about 4 through. It’s really cute but maybe a little too soapy in style for me (I know The OC was super soapy but teen drama for me hits differently). I also started riding my inside bike again so finished off the amusing This Way Up (Hulu). I also dabbled in The Golden Palace, the Golden Girls sequel because Hulu seemed to really think I should watch it. Didn’t quite capture the original’s charm. I also caught the first Leonardo (CW) and big pass but I might tune in for another Welcome to Wrexham (Fx/Hulu) to see where it’s going.

Ink Master is hitting Paramount + on 9/7 which looks like it’s rolling out weekly through November so I need to decide whether I’m going to do a Paramount + binge now or wait til it’s all done, 7 days free, and then $5/mo for the cheapest version. Yes, I’m picking channels based on a reality show. I found the old version of this really fun though not knowing if the reboot (this is technically season 14) will be the same, judging by the last season it would be $20 to purchase the SD version so comparable to 4 months of viewing. Plus I’ve bought a couple of seasons of The Good Fight which I’m behind on (because I was awaiting this decision). It is also dropping its final season starting 9/8 to wrap in early November. I would plan to not get caught up in anything new so I could cut bait, but I could catch up on Evil too while I’m there. Shoot I wonder what else is on there.

I tried Bump which for me was a pass. I wrapped the latest season of The Boys which I guess has always been brutal but it might be getting to be too much for me. And Deutschland 83 before moving on to Deutschland 86/89, it’s got kind of an Americans feel but intrigued by the time jump and new scenarios layered in with ongoing characters.

The series finale of Better Call Saul is coming up so I’m ready to start diving in (for some reason if I’m not current with a show I prefer it to be complete). I’ll also be checking out the new season of Making the Cut on Amazon on Friday, the finale of Only Murders on 8/23, and the series finales of Animal Kingdom and Motherland: Fort Salem, caught up with the former (not looking good for our boys) but not the latter.

I appreciate that things are at least a little calmer with new tv during the summer. I cruised through The Old Man and DarkWinds, the former started out stronger and lost a little for me while the other was the opposite as I got to know more of the characters, I’ll tune back in for another season of both. I also tried to watch Flowers in the Attic: The Origin because we had randomly talked about how weird those books were but couldn’t make it past the first ep.

Looking forward to the return of Reservation Dogs and Resident Alien. I’ll also likely continue with Never Have I Ever which is cute enough. And started on Deutschland 83 for some fun spy capers and The Bear for family/culinary drama, so far so good.

I’ve been making some progress on The OC, though nothing can match that first season it’s still enjoyable. I wrapped the first season of the anthology series The Terror and decided not to dive back in for another brutal story (too dark thematically for me). I also wrapped Stranger Things which was entertaining enough (I always find the series middling but enjoyable) but felt like a little bit too much of a bridge to the final season. I dabbled with Only Murders which I’m enjoying and The Boys which might be losing its luster (for me). I also tried Everythings’s Trash which I’ll give another but didn’t immediately pull me in with its comedy and characters.

This week I’m doing some catch-up on The Old Man, Motherland: Fort Salem, Dark Winds, and Animal Kingdom, and while new streaming is not at the top of my list might check out The Resort and Uncoupled.

I’ve continued some catchup. Wrapping Ridley Road on Masterpiece, eh. The Belgian Professor T, good quirky criming (for which I had to do a trial subscription of Masterpiece to binge the second season). Wrapped up Atlanta which I enjoyed but kind of missed our core crew with so many standalone anthology eps. Watched El Camino to finally close the chapter on Breaking Bad before turning to Better Call Saul. And the first part of Stranger Things season 4 (excited for those final two eps hitting). I also sampled Dark Winds on AMC and the first two eps of The Old Man both of which were intriguing.

I’m also tempted to rewatch the first season of Only Murders in the Building to prep for the return. I’m also excited for the return of other summer fares including Motherland: Fort Salem for what I believe is the final season and Umbrella Academy which I am mostly over by the end of the season but seem to keep tuning back in. And the final eps of Stranger Things season 4. I did also start a rewatch of The OC so trying to pace myself, I haven’t watched it since it was on originally, in a time when if you didn’t record an episode it was lost and I think I missed a couple, California here we come.

• The Bear (Fx/Hulu) Series Premiere, Thursday 6/23 – This comedic take on a fine-dining chef returning home to run the family sandwich shop in Chicago.
• Gordita Chronicles (HBOM) Series Premiere, Thursday 6/23 – A coming-of-age series set in ’85 Miami follows a family’s move from the Dominican Republic.
• Loot (App+) Series Premiere, Friday 6/24 – Starring and EP’d by Maya Rudolph and other pedigrees bring comedy where newly single and billionaire looks to be more involved in her charity foundation.
• Man vs Bee (Net) Series Premiere, Friday 6/24 – I’m not sure how there’s an entire series on a man, Rowan Atkinson, trying to best a bee while house-sitting a fancy house but here you go.
• The Terminal List (Am) Series Premiere, Friday 7/1 – Based on the book, Chris Pratt stars as a Navy SEAL returning home and trying to make sense of an ambush and dark forces at work.
• Carl Weber’s The Black Hamptons (BET) Series Premiere, 7/1 – A four-part series set in Sag Harbor and looking at an elite family feud.

Cranking away on some tv I wrapped up Ozark and that was sure a journey, overall I enjoyed it, I’ll leave it at that. I also wrapped my rewatch of Cougar Town which was a fun comedy. I ended up watching the series Crossing Lines because though a little old it was marked a premiere and I hadn’t seen it, perfectly good for a ‘crimes across Europe’ escapade. And Tupac & Biggie which I started watching on USA ages ago but somehow got waylaid and finally caught up, curious about those incidents and time period but maybe lost some momentum in the series.

I’ll be tuning back into previously listed The Boys and Stranger Things and likely The Old Man as well as the returning Animal Kingdom.

• Irma Vep (HBO) Series Premiere, Monday 6/6, 9pm – Alicia Vikander takes on the role of disillusioned actress heading to France to film a remake, initial reviews are positive.
• All Rise (OWN) Season Premiere, Tuesday 6/7, 8pm – Wanted to call this out because this show got picked up by OWN after getting the ax so if you were a watcher you might need to do a little dvr reset, I enjoyed this legal case of the week where everybody cares.
• Ms. Marvel (Dis+) Series Premiere, Wednesday 6/8 – A new take on this superhero as Pakistani-American teen gets superpowers.
• Queer as Folk (Pea) Series Premiere, Thursday 6/9 – For some reason I was thinking they had already remade this British series but either way here we go again.
• First Kill (Net) Series Premiere, Friday 6/10 – Teen love between vampire and vampire hunter, based on a short story.
• Dark Winds (AMC) Series Premiere, Sunday 6/13, 9pm – Based on a book series, Native Tribal Police investigate a double murder and uncover their own personal demons.
• Spotlights (Show) Series Premiere, Sunday 6/12, 7:30pm – An anthology series of short films from emerging filmmakers.
• Becoming Elizabeth (Starz) Series Premiere, Sunday 6/12, 8pm – Lots of drama on the retelling of the rise of one of the more iconic queens following the death of Henry VIII.
• God’s Favorite Idiot (Net) Series Premiere, Wednesday 6/15 – Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone take their comedy stylings to a new series about an unlikely man who God taps to fight evil.
• The Old Man (Fx) Series Premiere, Thursday 6/16 – Based on the Thomas Perry novel and starring Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, and Amy Brenneman about a retired CIA operative who has to come out of hiding.
